Description

A classic comfort dessert combining creamy custard, flavorful bananas, and crunchy vanilla wafers.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 4 Large egg yolks
  • ¾ cup Granulated sugar
  • 3 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 2 tsp Pure vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 4 Ripe bananas (sliced)
  • 40 Vanilla wafers
  • 1½ cups Fresh whipped cream
  • As needed Extra vanilla wafers (for garnish)
  • As needed Banana slices (for decoration)
  • Light Dusting of cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine whole milk and heavy cream, heating them gently over medium-low heat until steaming.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together egg yolks, granulated sugar, and cornstarch.
  3. Slowly pour a ladleful of the hot milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture while whisking continuously.
  4. Gradually add more hot milk, then pour the mixture back into the saucepan over low heat, whisking until thickened.
  5. Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, then cover with plastic wrap to cool slightly.
  6. In a separate bowl, whip the cream until soft peaks form.
  7. Layer the pudding in a trifle dish with vanilla wafers, banana slices, and custard until ingredients are used up.
  8. Top with whipped cream, additional crushed wafers, banana slices, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  10. Serve chilled and enjoy!

Notes

For best texture, layer cookies just before serving to maintain crunchiness.
