Preparation

  • Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges.
  • In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and melted butter until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk until well combined.
  • Pour the batter into a greased 9-inch cake pan, smoothing the top.
  • Arrange the sliced apples on top of the batter, gently pressing them in.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 45 to 55 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool for 10 minutes in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack.
  • Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

To elevate your cake, add chopped nuts or fold in raisins for contrast. Avoid overmixing the batter for a moist cake. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top for extra flavor.
