Candied Pecans

  • 1 cup chopped pecans Adds texture and richness.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Remove the top layer of rind from the brie cheese.
  • Place the brie on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Make the Blackberry Sauce

  • In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine blackberries, 1/4 cup of sugar, water, salt, and balsamic vinegar.
  • Mash the mixture slightly with a fork and cook for about 10 minutes until thickened.
  • Remove from heat, add basil leaves, and let steep for 10 minutes before discarding the leaves.

Toast the Pecans

  • In a skillet over medium-high heat, toast the chopped pecans until fragrant.
  • Add the remaining sugar and butter; stir until the sugar melts and coats the pecans.
  • Remove from heat and spread pecans on a plate to cool.

Assembly and Baking

  • Top the brie with blackberry sauce and sprinkle with candied pecans.
  • Bake in the oven for about 5-7 minutes until the brie is warmed through and gooey.
  • Serve with crackers.

Notes

For best results, choose a ripe wheel of brie. Consider adding cinnamon or nutmeg to the sauce. Let brie sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before baking to help it melt evenly.
