  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk For a luscious texture and depth of flavor.
  • 1/2 cup milk Balances the creaminess.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese Melts to create a bubbly, cheesy top layer.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Spray a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, diced onions, and minced garlic until the beef is no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
  • Season the beef mixture with salt and black pepper, then layer the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish.
  • Top the potatoes with half of the cooked beef mixture.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together both condensed soups and evaporated milk with regular milk until smooth.
  • Pour half of this creamy mixture over the beef layer and sprinkle half of the shredded cheese on top.
  • Repeat the layering with remaining sliced potatoes, beef mixture, soup mixture, and finish with remaining cheese.
  • Cover the dish with foil, tenting slightly.

Baking

  • Bake for 1 hour, then remove foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until bubbling and golden brown.
  • Allow to sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Tip: Add spices like paprika or Italian seasoning for a twist. Mix in steamed vegetables for added nutrition. For spice, add jalapeños to the beef mixture.
