Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 1 box orange cake mix This will serve as the base, contributing a lovely citrus flavor and light texture.
  • 3 large eggs These add richness and help bind the cake together.
  • 1 cup milk Provides moisture for a soft, tender cake.
  • 1/2 cup melted butter Adds a rich flavor and moist crumb.
  • 1/2 cup orange sherbet, softened Infuses the cake with refreshing and creamy orange flavor.

For the Frosting

  • 1 cup heavy cream Essential for a fluffy frosting that isn't too sweet.
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar Sweetens the whipped cream perfectly.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract A hint of vanilla complements the orange flavor beautifully.

For Decoration

  • 1 qty orange fondant or icing for petals Perfect for creating daisy flowers.
  • 1/2 qty yellow fondant or icing for the center Adds a cheerful burst of color.
  • 1 qty green icing for leaves A finishing touch to complete your floral design.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the orange cake mix, eggs, milk, melted butter, and softened orange sherbet. Beat the mixture on medium speed until smooth, about two minutes.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.

Cooking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting

  • In a chilled bowl, combine heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat until stiff peaks form.

Assembly

  • Place one layer of the cooled cake on a serving platter and generously frost the top with whipped cream. Add the second layer and frost the entire cake.
  • Roll out the orange fondant into petal shapes and position them around the cake as flowers. Use yellow fondant for flower centers, and pipe green icing for leaves.

Notes

For a lighter-textured cake, ensure that your ingredients are at room temperature. You can substitute store-bought whipped cream for frosting, but homemade is recommended. Allow the frosted cake to sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving for best results.
