Instructions

Preparation

  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Arrange the slices of brioche bread in a single layer, slightly overlapping each piece to fit the dish snugly.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the arranged brioche slices, gently pressing down the bread to absorb the custard.
  • Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, melted butter, and vanilla extract to create a caramelized topping.
  • Spread this mixture evenly over the top of the soaked bread.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and slightly puffed.

Serving

  • Dust with powdered sugar, top with fresh berries, and drizzle with maple syrup if desired.

Notes

Common mistakes include not allowing enough time for soaking and overcrowding the baking dish. Consider using whole grain bread or dairy-free substitutes for variations.
