  • 1 lb ground beef Rich and flavorful, this protein forms the base of our casserole.
  • 1 packet taco seasoning Infused with spices, bringing incredible flavor.
  • 2 cups frozen hash browns Provides a crispy texture.
  • 2 cups salsa Adds a tangy kick.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend) Creates a warm, gooey layer.
  • 1/2 cup sour cream Adds a luscious contrast to the flavors.
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional) For a touch of color and freshness.

Preparation

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in the taco seasoning and mix well. Cook according to package instructions.
  • In a slow cooker, layer half of the hash browns, half of the cooked beef, a third of the salsa, and a third of the cheese. Repeat the layers.
  • Spoon any remaining salsa on top and dollop sour cream across the surface.
  • Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours.
  • Before serving, sprinkle with chopped green onions.

Notes

For a spicier dish, add diced jalapeƱos or use pepper jack cheese. This casserole can be prepared a night ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
