Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add in the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  • Gradually integrate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a thick dough forms.
  • Divide the dough in half, wrap each portion in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least one hour.

Baking

  • Once chilled, roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  • Use cookie cutters to craft charming gingerbread shapes.
  • Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden.
  • Transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
