Ingredients

Chocolate Mousse Layers

  • 1.5 cups dark chocolate, chopped Use high-quality chocolate for best flavor.
  • 1.5 cups milk chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup white chocolate, chopped
  • 2 cups heavy cream, divided Use one cup for mousse, reserve rest for whipped cream.

Cake Ingredients

  • 1 package chocolate cake mix Alternatively, use homemade chocolate cake.
  • 3 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup sour cream
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar For the whipped cream.
  • 0.5 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9-inch round cake pan by greasing and lining it.
  • Follow the instructions on your chocolate cake mix or mix your homemade chocolate batter using the listed ingredients.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely.

Mousse Preparation

  • In a saucepan over low heat, warm 1/2 cup of heavy cream until hot, but do not boil.
  • Place the dark, milk, and white chocolate in separate bowls. Pour the hot cream over each chocolate and stir until melted.
  • Let the mixtures cool slightly, then add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract and a pinch of salt to each bowl.
  • In another bowl, whip the remaining 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream with the powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  • Gently fold the whipped cream into each chocolate mixture to preserve their airy texture.

Assembly

  • Slice the cooled cake horizontally in half to create two layers.
  • Place the bottom layer on a serving platter and spread the dark chocolate mousse over it.
  • Place the second layer of cake on top and spread milk chocolate mousse, followed by the white chocolate mousse.
  • Chill the torte in the refrigerator for at least four hours before serving.
  • Decorate with chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder before serving.

Notes

For optimal results, allow the cake to cool completely before layering with mousse. Avoid overbeating the whipped cream to maintain lightness in the mousse. Chilling time is crucial for setting the torte properly.
