Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour perfect for a light and fluffy texture
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder helping to provide just the right lift
  • 0.25 tsp salt balancing the sweetness

Wet Ingredients

  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter softened to create a rich base
  • 1 cups sugar for that delightful sweetness and light crust
  • 2 large eggs adding moisture and richness
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract imparting a lovely aroma and flavor
  • 0.5 cups milk lending moisture to the batter
  • Red food coloring to achieve that iconic Valentine’s hue

Toppings

  • Vanilla frosting which will top off the cupcakes perfectly
  • Sprinkles (optional) for a fun and festive finishing touch

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper cupcake liners.

Mixing

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and finishing with the dry ingredients.
  • Add a few drops of red food coloring and stir until you achieve the desired shade.

Baking

  • Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups, filling each about two-thirds full.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cooling and Decorating

  • Allow the cupcakes to cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Frost them with vanilla frosting and optionally sprinkle with colorful sprinkles.

Notes

Ensure butter and eggs are at room temperature. Don't overmix the batter; it can lead to tough cupcakes. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. For freezing, wrap them in plastic wrap.
