Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  • In another bowl, whisk the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, white vinegar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Gently incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, careful not to overmix.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

Baking

  • Slide the pans into the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting

  • Beat the softened cream cheese and unsalted butter together until smooth.
  • Slowly incorporate the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until light and airy.
  • Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost the top of one layer and place the second layer on top, frosting the top and sides.

Decoration

Notes
